About Knyt

Knyt is a knitting platform from Stockholm. At its centre is an app that turns any pattern, whether a PDF, a printout or a purchase, into something you can knit from directly. Around it we publish guides and interviews in Discover, and in time we will open a curated marketplace for independent designers.

How Knyt began

Julia and Sofia, the two founders of Knyt

We are Julia and Sofia, a product development duo from Gothenburg, based in Stockholm. We have worked in tech for fifteen years. We are also avid knitters.

The idea for Knyt came from our own knitting. Patterns arrive as PDFs that show every size at once. Charts blur when you zoom. Your row count lives on a scrap of paper. The tools that do exist are cluttered, dated and hard to use. We wanted something we would use ourselves and could not find it, so we decided to build it.

That became Knyt.

Why the name

In Swedish, knyt means tie, as in tying a knot. Said in English, it sounds like knit. The double meaning is deliberate.

What we believe

Calm over clutter

A pattern should show what you need and nothing else.

Your patterns are yours

What you bring into Knyt stays private.

Curated, not closed

When the marketplace opens, every storefront is reviewed, and anyone can apply.

Old crafts deserve good tools

Knitting is centuries old. The software around it should not feel the same age.
